Psychological Foundations
As a Chartered Coaching Psychologist, my approach blends evidence-based psychology with a human touch, drawing on methods that are effective while honouring each person’s unique journey. The foundations you’ll see here - from Positive Psychology to Behavioural Science - guide the way I help leaders build clarity, confidence, and lasting impact.
1. Positive Psychology
Thriving and Strengths
Positive Psychology explores what helps people and teams flourish. It focuses on strengths, meaning, optimism, and wellbeing - not as “nice-to-haves,” but as essential drivers of performance, motivation, and resilience.
When leaders cultivate positive emotion, purpose and strengths, they create the conditions for people to thrive - including themselves.
2. Coaching Psychology
Evidence-based Growth
Coaching Psychology combines the science of psychology with the practice of coaching. It’s a collaborative, evidence-based approach that supports lasting, self-directed change. It helps leaders reflect deeply, build awareness, and take purposeful action toward meaningful goals.
Through reflective conversation and evidence-based tools, coaching psychology helps leaders think clearly, act courageously, and grow sustainably.
3. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Values and Flexibility
ACT helps people develop psychological flexibility - the ability to stay present and take action guided by values, even when challenges arise. It teaches practical skills to handle difficult thoughts or emotions so they no longer get in the way of what truly matters.
Real growth happens when we stop fighting our inner experiences and start moving toward what gives life meaning.
4. Humanistic Approach
Authenticity and Connection
The Humanistic perspective recognises the whole person- their values, emotions, and unique potential. It’s grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. In this space, people feel seen, heard, and safe to explore who they are and what they truly want.
When people feel genuinely understood, they reconnect with their strengths, confidence, and direction.
5. Behavioural Science
Action and Sustainable Change
The Behavioural approach focuses on what we do - and how small, consistent actions create powerful change over time. By experimenting, practising, and reinforcing new habits, leaders build lasting behavioural shifts that align with their goals and values.
Transformation happens step by step - through actions that reflect who we want to be.
